At the end of each season, you can place a franchise tag on up to 12 of your players for a 2 round penalty based on where the player was drafted the previous year. You do not have to franchise any player if you do not wish or you can even franchise one player if that is what you want to do. You CANNOT place a franchise tag on any player drafted in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th round the year prior.
For example, If you draft Adrian Peterson in the 9th round, the next year you can keep him for a 7th round selection. This means that you will not be able to draft in the 7th round because you kept Adrian Peterson. The season after that, he would be unable to keep due to his 5th round value and by rule, you cannot franchise anyone with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round value.
With this in mind... if you draft someone in the 13th round, you will be able to keep him for 4 years if you wish... each year you keep him, his price gets bigger and bigger. (2nd year costs a 11th round pick, 3rd year costs a 9th round pick, 4th year costs a 7th round pick and the 5th year costs a 5th round pick).
You have to make the decision as an owner on whether you think it is worth giving up a draft pick for that player is a benefit for your team or not. It is now time to take control on building a dynasty..
ALSO, Lets say Adrian Peterson was drafted in the 9th round and he was dropped during the season and someone else picks him up during the season. If he is on a roster at the end of the season, that owner will have the option to franchise that player. Since the previous owner drafted him in the 9th round, that value stays true, so whoever picked him up would have to give up a 7th rounder next year to keep him.
You can keep 2 players who were drafted in the same round at a certain price. So lets say that you have 2 eligible players to franchise and they were both drafted in the 10th round the prior year.... You will have to see the total fantasy points scored between the 2 and whoever scored more points will be drafted 3 rounds earlier than selected.... so for example... the 2 were drafted in the 10th round, you keep one that scored the least amount of fantasy points for a 8th round pick and the one who scored the most fantasy points for a 7th round pick.
Rosters are locked at the end of the season for non-playoff teams, and for playoff teams, the rosters are locked after you lose in the playoffs.
You have until 1 week prior to our draft to lock in your choices for any Franchise Tags you wish to place on your players. Any player without a designated franchise tag will be thrown back in the pool of draftable players for the next draft.
REMEMBER, YOU CAN NOT PLACE A FRANCHISE TAG ON A PLAYER THAT WAS NOT DRAFTED SO DRAFT WISELY!!
ALSO!!!, YOU CAN NOT PLACE A FRANCHISE TAG ON A PLAYER WHO DIDN'T PLAY A SINGLE DOWN DURING THE REGULAR SEASON THE YEAR PRIOR WHETHER HE WAS DRAFTED OR NOT!
